Janae Easton is a distinguished artist and former Adjunct Professor at FSU, where she taught in the Painting and Drawing Department. Raised amidst the towering pines of the Northeast and having spent formative years in New Jersey, Janae moved to the Southeast, a region she now embraces for its mossy, kudzu-draped landscapes. She refined her artistic skills at The Art Institute of Chicago before returning to the South, drawn by its unique blend of comfort and strangeness.
Adept in manipulating textures and patterns, Janae engages daily in the art-making process, driven by curiosity and a desire to explore the intersections of the tangible and the conceptual. Her work often strives to connect seemingly disparate elements, creating innovative and unexpected artistic expressions.
Beyond her academic roles, Janae has been deeply involved with MLP, contributing her expertise to both set and costume design. Though no longer teaching at MLP, her influence persists in the compelling visual elements of our productions. Since 2017, inspired by her son’s active involvement, Janae has been a vital part of our theatre community. As our new Creative Director, Janae brings a visionary approach and a rich blend of artistic and theatrical expertise that promise to propel our theatre to exciting new artistic frontiers.
